| Dave Blendell keeps it clean and protected with Scottoiler's handy spray
As one who was appalled by the carnage wrought on an 8 month-old Diversion by the elements during a no worse than usual Winter despite using WD40 I was interested to hear about Scottoiler’s protective spray, the less than memorably named FS365.
As the owner of a Fazer – a bike infamous for the poor quality of its finish – I wanted to keep it in the same condition as it was when I bought it, so I gave the spray a go. So far (and bear in mind I ride seven days a week in all weathers), the bike has been well-protected by this stuff. I can honestly say that cosmetically the bike is the same as it was back in August.
The spray nozzle is adjustable, but I tend to lash it on. I`m not big on cleaning so a bonus is that a quick going-over with FS365 gives your bike that "just washed" look (as long as you don’t look too closely). Admittedly the bike smells awful first ride after application but that is a small price to pay. Apparently it reacts to road salt, neutralising it rather than forming some kind of "barrier".
It does wash off in the rain, so regular reapplication is needed. Being oil based, FS365 should be kept well away from your brake discs as well.
This is the first winter I can remember where I haven’t been riding a disgusting looking heap with weeks of accumulated road muck glued to it by WD or grease. There will be no need for the usual two-day strip-down and Solvol session I waste a weekend on every Spring either. Top stuff. On the whole, bearing in mind the Fazers distinctly unimpressive reputation for finish, so far so very good.
