Halvarssons 'Mesh' Summer Gloves - Bob Pickett discovers sometimes, you just find a piece of kit that is just right

Halvarssons Mesh Summer gloves - like wearing a second skin... For years I'd ridden in one pair of gloves all year round. Then I decided it was time to try a pair of Summer gloves (Hein Gericke Air) - and life was transformed. The level of feel and the coolness of my hands was a relevation.

I thought I couldn't find anything better… until I was given a pair of Halvarssons Mesh gloves. Oh boy, was I wrong. Don't get me wrong, the Air gloves are good. Very good in fact. But the Mesh gloves are just so damned good.

They're like a second skin. They are a little tight to pull on, but once they're on, they're an extension of your hand. And where the Air gloves are a bit shiny (which always worried me a little if it rained in case the grip became slippery), the palms of the Mesh gloves are made of a lovely supple goatskin that is both flexible and grippy. This also translates into excellent levels of feel for fine throttle control.

The goatskin makes them ultra-grippy... The gloves allow air through via a mesh (hence the name) and they just stay cool, no matter what. And, realising that Summer can still see rainfall, they feature the same suede strip on the outside of the thumb that Halvarssons Winter range has - so if it does start to tiddle down, you can keep your visor clear on the move.

Comfort, feel, grip - all of these are there in abundance. So are there any downsides? I always try really hard to find something wrong - but in the case of the Halvarsson Mesh gloves I'm struggling. OK, it would be good if the span between thumb and forefinger was a little less restrictive (this seems to be a feature on their gloves) and the cuff is a little short… but lets face it, these are nothing worth worrying about.

Verdict: These are excellent Summer Gloves. They tick all the right boxes, provide comfort, excellent feel, your hands stay cool - what more can you ask for from a Summer glove? Add a pair of these to your kit, you won't be disappointed
