Bob Pickett reviews the HJC CL-14 Helmet
Retailing at £119.99, it has a seven vent system using sliding vents to make it easy to operate with gloved hands.
The helmet comes with removable, washable liner and chin curtain and a removable breath-guard that attaches to the
lining by Velcro, with two built in ports that allow air to enter via two of the front vents. A nice paint job with
some very sparkly decals makes for a good looking piece of kit.
The lining felt tight and pressed against my forehead. At first appearances the finish seems decent and should last well in day to day riding. I had to give up with the breath-guard, as it was pressing on my nose and I also found it intrusive in day to day use. But if you get on with a breath-guard, combined with the seven vents this is a helmet you can rely on not to mist up. The top vents do an excellent job of keeping your head cool. The visor mechanism is stiff and hard to open from fully closed, but this is a race lid and is designed to ensure the visor doesn't flip up at race speeds. Peripheral vision is excellent, as you'd expect from a lid designed for use on the track. I also experienced a little noise, but not much - and this was with all vents open and the visor partially open on a windy day. But it is definitely quiet enough to live with on a daily basis. Verdict: The HJC CL14 is a lot of lid for not a lot of money, and if you are a dedicated track day fan then this is the one to go for.
