Hein Gericke Takei FT100 helmet - Bob Pickett find basement price doesn't always mean bargain...

Cheap... but not all that cheerful At £39.99, this is a very competitive price and should be affordable to all but the most bankrupt of bikers.

The helmet features a simple two vent system and does up with a seatbelt style fastener rather than a D-ring. It is available plain or with a range of colours and designs.

It is on the small side, but still reasonably comfortable. The venting was a let-down though, with the visor misting up on a cold day, even at speeds over 40mph, making it necessary to keep the visor open a fraction all the time – impractical at motorway speeds. It is also rather noisy – I experienced a constant hiss, even when pottering about at low speed.

Verdict:

The FT100 would be fine for someone starting out with little money to spend, but it might be better to stretch your wallet a little and get something more upmarket. It would be fine kept in reserve for occasional pillion use.
